Our History

The name Alpha Medical draws inspiration from the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Our name encompasses our mission of striving for excellence, leadership & innovation in the industry. At Alpha Medical we see both patients and clinicians as requiring our priority attention as we assist them to bring healthcare innovation to our local communities.

Alpha has been established as an unashamedly Kiwi company. All our employees are proud to fly the New Zealand flag within a business that is responsive to our local healthcare needs. We understand the unique factors within our New Zealand healthcare system and know the local communities that are served throughout the country.

Our Alpha Medical staff have a strong legacy of supporting the New Zealand healthcare sector. Our people possess medical-device industry experience totaling over 70 years. In addition, the business and governance experience with the Alpha team is unmatched in the industry.


Our People

Bruce Cameron is a local businessman born and raised in Te Puke, who is passionate about NZ companies that are people centric and ones that have strong growth strategies that ultimately deliver outstanding opportunities and results for shareholders, employees and their communities. 

His background in the Agribusiness sector has taken him from shepherding on the East Coast after leaving school, starting his first company at 26 years old through to a governance career that started restructuring distressed companies through the GFC in the late 2000's for the Goodfellow Group, then on to joining the Zespri board in 2010 becoming Chair of Zespri International Ltd from 2019 – 2024, Realty Service Holding Ltd – the owners of the Bayleys and Eves Franchises, and the Waipuna Hospice Foundation. Other notable directorships have been with the NZ China Council, New Zealand Rugby, Chairman of Bay of Plenty Rugby, and Chiefs Ltd. 

Bruce's own commercial interests are the Cameron Group, an intergenerational family business that includes Kiwifruit Orchards, Dairy Farms, Forestry, Quarrying, Medical and Property Companies where he is Chairman of the family board. Bruce's daughters and son in laws are all shareholders in the businesses, who now manage all day-to-day operations. 

Bruce has been married to Gillian for 42 years and they live between his family home on the Otamarakau farm and his Mount Maunganui residence.

Brandon Hiini

After 9 years as a professional cricketer, Brandon entered the medical device industry in March 2013. With an initial sales region covering 70 North Island surgeons, he grew business from $1.2m to $13m+ before heading to Christchurch with his young family. Brandon is considered one of the top Sports Medicine Salespeople within the New Zealand market and has relationships throughout the various layers of the Medical Industry.

Possessing such a noteworthy sales background & having strong relationships across the medical industry throughout NZ, Brandon is well-positioned to leverage Alpha Medical’s products within the New Zealand market.

Mark O’Brien

MANAGING DIRECTOR

A driven, experienced, ethical, and highly respected Commercial Leader in the medical device industry, Mark has recently joined Alpha Medical after leading and driving Zimmer Biomet NZ for over a decade. He brings strong leadership skills, and a track record of successfully bringing medical technologies to the NZ market. A proven partner in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, medical specialists, and hospital teams. He is passionate about mentoring, developing team members and new talent, and creating a competitive and diverse workforce.

Steve Hamilton

OPERATIONS

Steve Hamilton is an experienced manager of healthcare & technology businesses. Under Steve’s leadership within the J&J organization, DePuy-Mitek was established in New Zealand, and he later assisted Smith & Nephew through a difficult period of management transition across Australia & NZ.

While managing medical device businesses, Steve has recognized the importance of an efficient back-office (HR, logistics, regulatory, finance & admin), supporting the needs of both business and customer.

Steve has served three terms on the Medical Technology Assoc (MTANZ) board and has been engaged as a consultant, working on behalf of this industry association. He has served on the organizing committee and chaired individual conferences within New Zealand’s annual HealthTech Week program.
